Periodontal disease should be a cause for concern for dogs and cats. When left untreated, it can lead to heart, liver, and lung disease. Unfortunately, some pets suffer silently, it isn’t until a dental check-up that the problem is identified following which treatment starts immediately, depending on the severity of the condition.

Gum disease can occur in up to 80% of dogs and cats by the age of three. The most common is gingivitis, an inflammation of the gums. When the pain and swelling persists, dogs and cats may stop eating altogether, leading to other health problems.
